It is with a heavy heart and a profound sense of loss that I share the news of the sudden passing of our longtime friend and colleague, Marty Helly. Marty passed away unexpectedly due to cardiac arrest, leaving a large void in the CSI community that will be felt for years to come.
A Personal Tribute
On a personal level, I owe much of my professional journey to Marty’s guidance. Early in my career, Marty took me under his wing and saw potential in me that I hadn’t yet seen in myself.
He was the one who first placed me on committees for the New York Chapter, patiently mentoring me and navigating me through the intricacies of CCS certification and our organization. It was because of his steady encouragement and belief in my leadership that I had the opportunity to become President of Metro NY CSI so early in my career. He wasn’t just a colleague; he was a bridge to the future of this institute for me and many others.
Services and Remembrances
For those who wish to pay their respects, a wake will be held this coming Monday in Northampton:
- Location: Czelusniak Funeral Home 173 North St #2, Northampton, MA 01060
- Time: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
While the funeral service will be private, the family is planning a Celebration of Life for April or May. Marjorie Helly has shared that they would be honored to have Marty’s CSI colleagues attend. We will provide those details as they are finalized.
A Request for Photos
To help Marjorie and the family honor Marty’s memory, Steve Nault admin@naultarchitects.com will be collecting photos of him from over the years for use on memory boards. If you have any photos—from chapter meetings, regional conferences, or social gatherings—please send them directly to Steve.
Our deepest condolences go out to Marjorie, Mike and the entire Helly family. We have lost a true mentor, a leader, and a friend.
Frank Mruk, President, Northeast Region CSI
